SweetPeet™ Uses

Much More Than Mulch!

Protection from Acid Rain
Spread SweetPeet™ as a mulch around the base of trees and shrubs to a thickness of 3 to 4 inches. Coverage should include all areas within the drip line of overhanging branches. Mulch should taper off near tree trunks or the shoots of shrubs so as not to come in contact with the bark. Repeat application once a year.

If mounding occurs after several years use, remove part of the previous application before re-applying fresh SweetPeet™. When SweetPeet™ is used in this way it forms a protective barrier to absorb acid rain and gently neutralize it before it enters the root zone. When the drip line from trees or shrubs falls over an established lawn, follow the directions below for established lawns.

Planting Trees, Shrubs, and Garden Plants
Prepare a hole twice the size of the root ball being planted. Make a mix of 50% SweetPeet™ and 50% soil from the dug hole. After the planting is placed in the hole, use the prepared mixture to back-fill around the roots. Water and tamp in firmly to avoid air pockets.

On Established Lawns
SweetPeet™ is used as a top dressing on lawns and can be spread thinly by hand or in a spreader set at its biggest opening. Avoid spreading so thick as to smother the grass. Rake in gently with a leaf rake. This application can be repeated frequently during the growing season with no danger of burning. For best results apply a few days after mowing. Used in this way, SweetPeet™ will eventually replace the need for caustic liming and will add a water retentive tilth to your lawn soil helping it during droughty, hot summer days.

To Establish New Lawns
A 4 to 6 inch layer of SweetPeet™ should be spread on desired area, along with any fertilizer or lime if recommended. Incorporate into soil and mix well using a rake, hoe, or roto-tiller. Smooth evenly before seeding.

Compost Medium
SweetPeet™ is an excellent bulking agent for starting new compost piles or for rejuvenating older, burned-out piles. Mix SweetPeet™ with any organic "compostable" materials such as food scraps or lawn clippings. Any proportion of up to 75% SweetPeet™ will compost.

Peat Moss Replacement
Peat moss bogs are an important filtering and purifying system for water which recharges our deep-water aquifers. Because of this, many peat bogs are being conserved and many more are scheduled to be. You, the consumer, can play an important role in preventing the wholesale mining and stripping of this important, irreplaceable natural resource. There is a better alternative to peat moss use. SweetPeet™ has been specifically formulated to replace peat moss. It can be freely substituted in any application where peat moss is used, and because it is sweeter and more nutritious it is a superior choice for you. Around acid loving plants Sweet Peet may be used amended with agricultural sulpher or other acidifying agents.
